Old school hard rock returns Apr 18, 2012
By Monkdude I enjoyed Halestorm's debut album, but The Strange Case Of... blows it away. There isn't one song I hate enough to skip and there is about a 70% hard rock to 30% ballad ratio here. The first four songs alone should rock your world.
Lzzy Hale is a mix of Joan Jett and Lita Ford. She's by far the superior singer of the three, though Lita has her beat on lead guitar of course. Just check out the video for "Love Bites (So Do I)" on that "video sharing" site and see what I mean. A hot chick with attitude. The rest of the band holds their own as well, especially Lzzy's brother on the drums.
The song lyrics range from fun to sexy. Nothing too deep, but they are a whole lotta fun to sing along to.
So...
If you like rock with heavy riffs, a few ballads thrown in the middle for balance, melodic song structures and a female singer who is in my mind one of the best rock vocalists working today, buy this album now. I bought the deluxe version because it includes three bonus tracks.

Strong, Personal & Pure Rock 'n' Roll (Explicit & Censored Versions Beware) Apr 10, 2012
By Madeline There is a massive shortage of quality female fronted hard rock. While operatic metal groups like Nightwish are abundant--true hard hitting rock is much harder to find. Which makes Halestorm so freakin awesome. Groundbreaking-no. Quality music-yes.
Lzzy Hale and her boys have put out a sophomore album that is much more varied than their previous efforts with tinges of southern rock, arena rock and even some pop overtones overlaid into their bread and butter hard rock. I think their branching out into different sounds really adds a level of complexity to their work. While they didn't get the mixture perfect on every song, the songs don't all sound the same and have much more personality. You won't find yourself thinking you accidentally hit the repeat button as each song is distinctly different which I really appreciate as that's a common problem within this genre. The inclusion of beautiful ballads like "Beautiful With You" or "Break In" make you appreciate that much more the hardness of other songs like "Love Bites."
The outstanding musicianship of the band is especially evident in the crafting of these songs. You'll find yourself waiting for a guitar breakdown or a quiet moment that helps convey emotion. Lzzy is simply an exceptional vocalist who can carry technical riffs, high notes and still convey heartbreaking vulnerability. This album also seems more personal than their last which showcases Lzzy's talent even more.
This album is empowering, strong, soft, sexy and an insane amount of fun. It's system blaring, top down on a warm night kind of music. Highly recommend.
**Like the others I also recommend getting the deluxe version. I personally wish the extra tracks had just been put on the album.

Halestorm continue to impress with second album! Apr 12, 2012
By MonsterZeroNJ Pennsylvania rockers Halestorm continue to impress with their second album filled with good old fashioned, head banging Rock 'N' Roll played the way it should be. Lead by singer and guitarist Lzzy Hale along with guitarist Joe Hottinger, bass player Josh Smith and drummer Arejay Hale, Halestorm delivers 12 strong songs varying from fist pumping anthems like the first track, "Love Bites(So Do I)" or "Daughters Of Darkness" to heartfelt ballads like "Beautiful With You". Lzzy Hale's vocals are powerful and versitile as she can go from sweet and melodic to growling with the best of them and the band is tight with all 12 tracks mixed to emphasize that each musician knows how to play their weapon of choice. The songs are all effectively structured and the lyrics are well written rock tunes that deliver what we expect from this type of music without trying too hard or overdoing it. The band's writing comes across as a genuine. They present the familiar themes of sex, love, rocking out and rebellion in their own style without making them sound cliche'. The band's passion for the music comes across in all 12 tracks and the album is stronger for it. All in all a very solid and well produced album of hard rock, plain and simple, the way it was meant to be. In an age of over-produced, synthetic junk, "The Strange Case Of..." is back to basics, down and dirty Rock 'N' Roll by a band that knows the meaning of the words and can back it up with their instruments and vocals!

Halestorm kick's ass again!Halestorm continues the greatness of rock with The Strange Case Of...Halestorm.I love the debut effort, but I will say this second Cd I love even more. The band continues with excellent musicianship all around.Lizzy Hale sounds better than ever with a voice of a sweet and alluring Rock N' Roll vixen that will send your music senses on the ride of your life. Some of the things that I love about Lizzy is the attitude of being yourself and not taking sh** from anyone which she shows in the punch ya in the face songs like Love Bites{So Do I},Freak Like Me,and You Call Me A Bitch Like Its A Bad Thing. Then you also get the straight up rockin songs like I Miss The Misery,Rockshow,American Boys, and Daughter Of Darkness that are just pure enjoyment and will make your rock senses more pleased than ever. The three ballad songs are Beautiful With You,In Your Room, and Break In which are three of the best slower songs I've heard in a while.Lizzy again shows her range with heartfelt passion and soulful vocals that are very real to where they touch your heart. Here's To Us is a favorite where Lizzy identifies with all the people that bust their ass day in and day out and just need a drink or two to relax while spending time with friends. This is a 10 out of 10 sophmore effort from Halestorm that is one of the best rock/metal cd's of the year.If you liked the first Halestorm cd ,you will love this effort.Bottom line if you want some excellent rock/metal music to please the sense of sound, pick up The Strange Case Of...Halestorm.Halestorm Rocks!!!

BEWARE - THIS IS EDITED Apr 10, 2012
By Rob Houbeck I want to preface this review to warn you this is the EDITED version of this album.
I have listened to this album a couple times now, this is awesome. Lzzy is an amazing singer and her voice definitely shines through like every other album they have out, live or studio. I highly recommend this album, but if you want the full album, Amazon currently only has this EDITED version for the MP3 version of this album. I am pretty disappointed with that. The album is worth five stars, 1 star for AMAZON and only having this version.
