Fantastic Book! Nov 18, 2009 I like the alternative approach to learning music. Music is an intuitive art. This book supports the process. I never did well with lessons. This book helps me with using my instincts and innate sensibilities to create music.
One of the most inspiring books I've ever read! Oct 29, 2009 This book was simple, right to the point, entertaining, inspiring, spiritual, and heart-warming. Reading this book has truly changed my life and how I look at life itself. Victor Wooten is one of my favorite musicians and I'm so happy that he wrote this book that shared his insight on how music and life are intertwined, explaining some of the secrets of the universe and allowing the reader to enter into the musical world.
It's a must-read for everyone ...musicians, non-musicians, music-listeners, etc.

The Music Lesson Sep 20, 2009 I bought this for my bass-playing boyfriend and not only did it arrive well before the stated delivery date but the book itself is so much more than he expected. I've never seen him so absorbed by anything that wasn't his bass before. I'm sure I wont see him until it's finished... but he's treatening to read it again once he's done :)

Oh, Michael ! Jun 27, 2009 I read this book cover to cover. It was a pretty easy read and easily could be done during lunch breaks and the like over a small amount of time. I was hoping for some real insight from one of the worlds best bass players and how he developed his technique. And that exactly is what you don't get from this book. Instead you get a metaphysical type of 'i got home and look who was inside playing a guitar' ... 'an eleven year old was the best bass player i ever heard and who knows where he came from'... 'a book was peeking out of a bag that wasn't mine'..and other statements that he freely admits isn't sure if they are fact or fiction.
My problem is this: he states that "michael" jammed w/ him (and the house band) on stage before. So is he real? The kid left a drum machine behind .. so was he real? Uncle clyde w/ his harmonica, etc .. It is just too much of a stretch to pass this off as 'could be fiction' when material goods are left behind and other people see them in public places jamming. and he doesn't like bluegrass but he plays w/ possibly the worlds greatest bluegrass banjo player??
If I want metaphysics I'll go Alex Grey rather than this. We need some facts! Almost forgot to mention that this award winning bassist basically tells you to just go by 'feel' and to not really worry about practicing your instrument too much. Not what i would of expected to read...
