A Weak Memoir Mar 11, 2010 This is a very disappointing book in that Cole has no ability, even with a co-writer, to explain the phenomenal genuis of Led Zeppelin and the domination as the supergroup of the 1970's, and the pioneers of metal; considering the perspective that he should have had after witnessing their success and impact on the world for practically the twelve year run of Zeppelin. The trashing of the late John Bonham and the low regard the author had for young women and animals is in very poor taste.
Entertaining, But Look Elsewhere If... Mar 06, 2010 Bottom line: If you are looking for a book about the artistic influences of Led Zeppelin or a story about their songwriting, this is not the book. If you are looking for a funny/sad/engrossing book about what life is like in a touring rock band, then this book is a must read.
This is one of the most entertaining books I have read. The author mainly talks about the partying lifestyle of the Zeppelin members; the stories range from being hilarious, x-rated, to incredibly sad.
It was somewhat of a disappointment that the book went into little detail about the creative process of the band - but such accounts can really only be told from the perspective of the artists themselves. I cannot say how many stories are true (or retold with more of a punch to sell more copies) for some stories are very unbelievable...but it is entertainment nonetheless.
In all, I found the book to be thoroughly enjoyable. Again I will say that if you are looking for a book detailing the bands creative process then you'd better look elsewhere.

A Fun Book! Jan 22, 2010 People need to lighten up- this is a fun book, all about sex, drugs and rock'n'roll, which was a big part of Zeppelins appeal! I don't think any less of the band after reading it- they were young rock gods doing what many males in their 20's would have done in their situation! Of course they have long since all grown up and settled down now. I had a blast reading it- those were crazy days, for sure...
Better than you would think Dec 19, 2009 Most everyone trashes this book but I think it is a great read. I am a HUGE Zeppelin fan and have read and listened to nearly everything that I have gotten my hands on. It is really fun because it tells VERY sordid and explicit details of what happened from the perspective of Richard Cole. If you are looking for details of the live shows and studio happenings I would suggest "Heaven and Hell"...this book is about the parties and craziness that have become legend. Cole was at the epicenter of the madness, the stories are both funny and somewhat disheartning. Very detailed and lots of fun, you should have been there!
A good book full of memories Dec 13, 2009 Some readers don't seem to understand that this is not a typical biography book on a music group written by some journalist, but a compilation of memories from someone very close to them: their tour manager. Whether this book is full of lies or not is something that can only be said by Page, Plant, Jones and Grant, but let's face it: Cole spent with the boys almost 24 hours of every day on the road for eleven years. One can think that he's actually talking about something he lived and saw and not something he heard from someone. Honestly, I can believe the 90% of the stories in this book because, after all, this is the story of four young musicians who suddenly become worldwide famous and have anything they need and want at their feet and don't always know how to handle the situation. It's the same old story in rock n' roll world.
